How do we get a NJ marriage license?

It's easy to get your marriage license in NJ!  But it's almost never too early to figure out how to do that!
If you live in New Jersey, you'll apply for your wedding license  in  your home town, and you'll bring your drivers' licenses as ID.  (Only one of you has to live there and if you live in different towns, you can apply for your license in either.)
You'll bring one witness  over the age of 18, your fee for the wedding license, (which will be 28.00), and all the information about your NJ wedding venue and your NJ wedding officiant.  (If you're from out of state, you can still get married in NJ; you just need to go to the town where your wedding ceremony  is taking place.)
And that's it!  Three days later, your license will be ready to use.

You'll bring it to your wedding, your professional officiant will fill it out, get your two witnesses to sign it and return it to the clerk where your wedding ceremony took place.  Then you'll request your certified wedding license copies from that clerk.
After that, you can do all the fun stuff like changing your name, your driver's license, passports and the other things you need to update. There is no time limit on when you need to do this.
I usually tell my couples to call their local clerk as soon as they set their wedding date and find out when that clerk would like you to come in and apply.
It's all easy!  But remember, gettting married IN New Jersey means you need a license FROM New Jersey!
